In this class, you will learn to use the past, present, future, continuous, and perfect tenses to talk about yourself and your family, as well as communicate and further elaborate on your thoughts and ideas. You will learn the vocabulary needed for more complex situations including interviewing for a job, speaking with your boss, visiting the doctor’s office, paying your bills, etc. You will read the newspaper and discuss and write about current events. You will improve your reading and writing skills and feel more comfortable conversing with native English speakers.

This English conversation class for beginners is offered in partnership with the NYC Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs. The classes utilize We Are New York, an Emmy Award winning television series designed to help beginner English learners improve their listening and speaking skills.
This is a FREE class.

In this class, the focus is on spoken English, writing, idioms, and advanced sentence structure and grammar. You will improve your English language skills to convey the exact thoughts and ideas you want to express. Discussions on current events, challenging readings, and other materials will be used to help you improve your fluency and increase your confidence in communicating in English for a variety of different situations and settings.

This conversation class is facilitated by experienced instructors who utilize a diverse, multimedia approach to make language learning fun! Classroom activities include spoken word exercises, role playing, and recognizing lyrics in songs.

This class builds on the curriculum from our Intermediate 1 class. You will learn to use the past, present, future, continuous, and perfect tenses to talk about yourself and your family, as well as communicate and further elaborate on your thoughts and ideas. You will learn the vocabulary needed for more complex situations including interviewing for a job, speaking with your boss, visiting the doctor’s office, paying your bills, etc. You will read the newspaper and discuss and write about current events. You will learn the vocabulary needed for a variety of different settings, including asking for directions, telling the date and time, going shopping, and conversing over the phone. You will also learn the past, present, and continuous verb tenses.
